Conducted classes in Russian: a children's sports section coach in Kyiv was fined 5100 UAH
Language legislation applies not only to state institutions, educational establishments, or the service sector but also to sports sections working with children. It was precisely because of the use of a non-state language during training sessions and communication with parents that a coach of one of the sports sections in Kyiv was fined.
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Olena Ivanovska, imposed an administrative penalty in the form of a fine of 5100 hryvnias on the coach of one of the sports sections in Kyiv for violating the requirements of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language."
This concerns the use of a non-state language during children's training sessions, as well as when providing information about the schedule of classes, the cost of training, sports equipment, and the procedure for conducting classes.
Following the inspection, the Commissioner's representative drew up a protocol on an administrative offense, after which a decision was made to impose a fine.
"It is unacceptable when such things happen in children's sports sections. A coach working with children influences not only their physical training but also the environment, values, and behavior model," emphasized the Commissioner's representative Ihor Spiridonov.
He also noted that the professional sports achievements and many years of coaching experience of the offender do not exempt him from the obligation to comply with the language legislation requirements when performing professional duties.
According to the legislation, the decision to impose an administrative penalty can be voluntarily executed within a specified period. In case of non-payment of the fine, the materials are transferred to the state executive service for compulsory collection.
For repeated violations of language legislation within a year, a fine ranging from 8500 to 11,900 hryvnias is provided.
