Soldiers chose borsch and buckwheat with chicken: The Ministry of Defense will update the composition of dry rations
More than 60,000 servicemen participated in a survey on improving dry rations. The Ministry of Defense noted that the survey results will form the basis for updating the technical specifications of food kits intended for one full meal.
The survey was conducted in the "Army+" app from May 29 to June 12. Its purpose was to determine the optimal format of dry rations that would meet the needs of soldiers during combat and service tasks.
As Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mstyslav Banik noted, when forming new meal options, it is important to consider the real needs of servicemen and the conditions of modern warfare.
The Ministry of Defense explained that food kits are formed taking into account the conditions of unit deployment, delivery methods, and transportation capabilities. Therefore, when updating dry rations, parameters such as kit weight, energy value, ease of use, and taste characteristics were evaluated.
Which dry rations soldiers prefer
According to the survey results, 80.4% of respondents prefer ready meals in retort pouches. The most popular side dishes were buckwheat, rice, and potatoes, while the main protein sources were chicken, pork, and beef.
The most common combination is buckwheat porridge with chicken. Among first courses, borsch was the most popular, chosen by 78.3% of servicemen.
Soldiers also indicated that the most needed items in dry rations are:
- flameless food heaters;
- water purification means;
- disposable utensils;
- products for quick energy recovery — dried meat, nuts, chocolate, and protein bars.
At the same time, crackers and rusks were found to be the least demanded.
The Ministry of Defense reported that the survey results will be taken into account when developing an additional food option for positions. It is intended to complement existing kits and include the most popular dishes and flavor combinations among soldiers.
