Cars worth 2.4 million UAH destroyed by fire: two youths to be tried in Odesa for Tesla arsons
In Odesa, an indictment has been sent to court against two youths accused of a series of intentional arsons of Tesla cars. They are 19 and 16-year-old residents of the city.
According to the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region, the older boy agreed in the spring to the proposal of unknown persons to set cars on fire for money. He involved his underage acquaintance in the criminal activity.
The investigation established that the youths received tasks via messenger, selected cars, and coordinated them with the customer. After that, at night, they doused the vehicles with flammable liquid and set them on fire, recording the process on video for reporting.
Within one week, three Tesla cars used by local residents were destroyed in the Kyiv district of Odesa. The total damage amounts to about 2.4 million hryvnias.
After the last arson, law enforcement identified the suspects. The 19-year-old was detained and taken into custody, while the 16-year-old was subjected to a personal obligation preventive measure.
The actions of the accused were qualified under part 2 of article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional destruction or damage of another’s property by arson, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.
If found guilty, the boys face a penalty of imprisonment for up to 10 years.
As previously reported by the "Judicial and Legal Newspaper", in Podilskyi district of Kyiv, law enforcement detained a man suspected of intentionally damaging a psychologist’s car. According to the investigation, the suspect is a former patient of the victim and was dissatisfied with his work.
It was preliminarily established that the unknown man broke the glass of a BMW X5 with a hammer, then threw a plastic bottle with a flammable mixture into the cabin. As a result of the fire, the vehicle sustained significant damage.
