Foreigner deported from Ukraine for using two passports to circumvent migration rules
Employees of the Uman department of the Central-Southern Interregional Directorate of the State Migration Service, together with officers of the Strategic Investigations Department in the Cherkasy region of the National Police, escorted a foreigner to the state border and forcibly deported him from Ukraine. The foreigner attempted to use two passports to circumvent the established stay limits.
According to the Migration Service of Kirovohrad and Cherkasy regions, the 43-year-old man held passports of the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
In 2021, he changed his name, and the Moldovan passport was issued with the new personal data. This allowed him to use two different documents for a long time: entering Ukraine with one passport, staying within the visa-free regime period, leaving for a few days, and then returning with the other passport.
During inspections, migration service employees established that both documents belonged to the same person. Thus, the foreigner effectively evaded compliance with the "90 days within 180 days" stay rule.
For exceeding the permitted stay period, the man was held administratively liable under part 2 of article 203 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses and fined 3,400 hryvnias.
The State Migration Service noted that the man had no permanent residence or sufficient financial means to stay in Ukraine. Additionally, there were grounds to believe he would evade voluntary departure from Ukraine.
Therefore, a decision was made to forcibly deport the foreigner with a ban on further entry into Ukraine for five years.
