In the USA, a Los Angeles court ordered Texas millionaire Carl Westcott to pay singer Katy Perry over $3 million in legal fees after losing a years-long court dispute over the sale of an estate in California, People reports.

On May 28, a Los Angeles judge ruled that the 41-year-old performer is entitled to reimbursement of over $3 million for attorney fees and nearly $345,000 in court costs related to her business manager Bernie Goodwi.

This compensation is in addition to the previously awarded $1.8 million that Perry's team received after the court ruled against Westcott in November 2025.

The dispute began nearly six years ago when Perry and her then-fiancé Orlando Bloom purchased an estate in Montecito, California, from Westcott in August 2020 for $15 million. A few days after the deal was made, the businessman attempted to cancel the sale, citing mental incapacity. In 2015, he was diagnosed with Huntington's disease—a genetic brain disorder.

Westcott then filed a lawsuit against Goodwi, but the court found no "convincing evidence" to support his claims. The judge noted that during the transaction, the businessman appeared "consistent, engaged in the process, coherent, and rational."

On November 25, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Joseph Lipner determined that Perry is entitled to compensation of $1,842,142.84.

This amount includes $2.795 million in rental value of the house for the delay period in completing the deal—from the sale in September 2020 to March 2024. However, it was reduced by the value of preserved capital amounting to $1,062,736 and lost interest income of $149,703 by Westcott.

Afterward, Perry's team sought an additional $4.5 million for nearly 5,000 hours of legal work. However, Judge Lipner considered this amount "excessively high for a case of this nature."

The court also noted that under the terms of the $15 million estate sale, Goodwi paid Westcott $9 million and withheld $6 million from the purchase price. The court allowed the awarded $1.8 million to be deducted from the remaining funds.
