In Chernivtsi, a "general" was detained who promised to remove from military registration for $6,000
In Chernivtsi, law enforcement officers detained a man who demanded $6,000 from the relatives of a serviceman, guaranteeing his transfer to a rear military unit and promising to help with demobilization issues. To give himself weight and gain trust, he presented himself as a brigadier general of intelligence, having no relation to the structure. This was reported by the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine.
"Claiming connections in military units, he promised to resolve issues related to transfer to a rear unit and removal from military registration. For his services, he asked for $6,000 each.
On May 26, law enforcement officers detained the suspect while receiving part of the agreed amount of illegal benefit in the amount of $4,000 under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine," the police stated.
Law enforcement officers seized more than $15,000, including the received bribe amount, copies of personal, medical, and other documents regarding almost 100 servicemen and conscripts, mobile phones, fake orders, letters of appreciation, and other military symbols, as well as rough notes.
The detainee was notified of suspicion and a preventive measure was chosen.
The investigation continues. Persons who may have used the offender's services and those through whom mobilization issues were resolved are being identified.
