The driver of a Mercedes car drove at high speed into an underground passage where people were present, fatally injuring four citizens and injuring three others, and has been notified of suspicion. This was reported by the Kyiv police.

As a result of the collision, a 12-year-old boy, a 47-year-old woman, and two police officers aged 21 and 23 died. Two men and a woman were also injured and are currently hospitalized.

The perpetrator of the accident is a 49-year-old resident of Kherson region. According to the expert conclusion, he was sober at the time of the accident.

"Investigators of the Kyiv police department detained the driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, have notified him of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of traffic safety rules or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles, if it caused the death of several people," the police stated.

The offender now faces up to ten years of imprisonment.

Investigators have handed the suspect a petition to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention.

As is known, a pre-trial investigation has been launched in Kyiv regarding the fatal accident on Chokolivskyi Boulevard, which resulted in the deaths of four people, including a 12-year-old boy. According to law enforcement, the 49-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver was moving at a significant speed, lost control, and drove into an underground passage where people were present.
