In Poltava Region, a Former Law Enforcement Officer Was Sentenced for Killing Two 17-Year-Old Girls
A former police officer who caused a fatal traffic accident in Poltava region at the end of 2025 was sentenced to 12 years in prison. The court also banned him from driving vehicles for 10 years and stripped him of his special rank. The imposed punishment is the maximum provided by the article's sanction. This was reported by the prosecutor's office.
Prosecutors proved that the law enforcement officer, while driving his own Hyundai Tucson, hit two 17-year-old sisters.
The girls were returning home from a store and walking along the roadside. The injuries they sustained were incompatible with life — both died at the scene. It is known that the sisters were triplets.
The investigation established that the driver was intoxicated. The alcohol content in his blood was 1.7 per mille. Additionally, he was driving at a speed exceeding 100 km/h, significantly surpassing the allowed speed within the populated area.
In December of last year, the man was notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules by a person driving under the influence, which caused the death of several persons. The court chose a preventive measure of detention without bail, which remained in effect throughout the trial.
Following the official investigation, he was dismissed from the police force.
During the court hearing, the accused admitted his guilt and apologized to the mother of the deceased girls.
“Today, the Karlivka District Court passed a verdict against the former law enforcement officer for the traffic accident that took the lives of two children. The fatal consequences were caused by driving under the influence and excessive speed. My position in court as a public prosecutor was unequivocal — the maximum punishment provided by the sanction of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” said Yevhen Hladiy, head of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office.
