Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiga commented on the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin's refusal of the initiative for direct negotiations with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noting that he has lost "the chance to exit this disastrous war for him."

"By rejecting President Zelenskyy's proposal for direct peace talks, Putin has lost his chance to exit this disastrous war for him. Things will only get worse for Russia. Battlefield losses will continuously increase, and defeats will become increasingly humiliating. The economy will sink even deeper into recession. More jobs will be lost, taxes will rise, and inflation will hit the most vulnerable segments of the population. There are no safe places left in Russia that will not be affected by Ukraine's long-range sanctions. And their intensity will only grow," he wrote on his social media page X.

Sybiga reminded about the increasing international pressure on Moscow due to the refusal to end aggression.

"International pressure will not weaken – it will only become tougher. This will include the use of frozen assets, entry bans, and inevitable accountability for crimes. All this because the Kremlin fanatic seeks to stay in power at any cost and is ready to sacrifice his country's future and kill millions of people for his insane illusions. All because he does not want to accept a simple truth: he will never achieve his goals on the battlefield. He would be better off abandoning vain hopes for Ukraine's collapse, reduced support from its partners, or easing pressure on Russia," the minister added.

He warned that Russia will still have to agree to a diplomatic settlement, but the conditions will be much worse.

"Putin's refusal of peace should lead to a significant increase in international pressure on Russia and greater support for Ukraine," Sybiga concluded.
