How to Choose Safe LED Lamps: Consumers Reminded of Key Product Requirements
When purchasing lamps, LED light sources, or lighting equipment, consumers have the right to receive accurate and complete information about the product, its energy efficiency, and safety. This was reported by the State Consumer Service of Ukraine.
Product Requirements on the Market
The State Consumer Service notes that light sources and separate control gear used for operating certain types of lamps must comply with established technical requirements. These include standards for energy consumption, labeling, and ecodesign.
Such requirements allow consumers to choose more economical, high-quality, and safe products.
What to Pay Attention to When Buying
- Energy Labeling
The packaging must have an energy label with an energy efficiency class (from A to G). It allows assessing the level of electricity consumption and contains data about brightness, power, service life, and other characteristics.
- Product Information
The consumer must receive complete information about the product: details of the manufacturer or importer, technical specifications, conditions of use, instructions, and labeling in Ukrainian.
- Energy Efficiency and Ecodesign
Ecodesign requirements imply that the product meets minimum standards of energy efficiency, durability, and performance quality. This means that products should be designed for rational energy consumption and proper operational characteristics.
- Mark of Compliance with Technical Regulations
Its presence indicates that the manufacturer or importer declares the product’s compliance with safety, energy efficiency, and labeling requirements.
Where to Turn in Case of Violations
If the product lacks proper labeling, necessary information is missing, or there are doubts about its compliance with requirements, the consumer can contact the territorial bodies of the State Consumer Service.
The agency reminds that it carries out state market surveillance of certain types of non-food products, checks their compliance with technical regulations, and takes measures in case of violations.
