The US Senate Armed Services Committee has supported the continuation of security assistance to Ukraine and the increase of funding to $750 million within the defense budget, Reuters reports.

The committee, which is majority Republican, completed work on its version of the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on June 11.

The document provides for the extension of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) until 2029 and increases its funding to $750 million. These funds are paid to American companies for the production and supply of weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The legislative initiative also includes a prohibition on using NDAA-approved funds for any activities that recognize the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over internationally recognized Ukrainian territory and instructs the Pentagon to provide intelligence support to Kyiv to assist military operations.

Next, this bill must pass votes in both chambers of Congress, after which a compromise version will be sent to the White House for President Donald Trump's signature.
