Pension will increase, but not for everyone: who can receive an additional 20%
In Ukraine, there is a special pension supplement for citizens who live or work in mountainous settlements. Thanks to this benefit, the amount of pension payments increases by 20%, but to receive it, one must independently apply to the Pension Fund.
The mountain supplement is provided by law to compensate for the difficult living conditions in highland areas, where people often face harsh climates, long winters, and limited transport accessibility.
To arrange the pension increase, it is necessary to meet several conditions:
- to live or work in a mountainous settlement for at least six consecutive months;
- not to pay the unified social contribution at a workplace in another settlement;
- not to be abroad for more than 60 consecutive days during the last three months, unless the absence was due to valid reasons.
The supplement is available not only to permanent residents of mountainous areas but also to internally displaced persons who actually live in such settlements and meet the established criteria.
The list of mountainous settlements includes those in four regions of Ukraine:
- Zakarpattia;
- Ivano-Frankivsk;
- Lviv;
- Chernivtsi.
Experts remind that due to the lack of automatic assignment, some pensioners have not received their entitled supplement for years. Therefore, citizens living in mountainous areas are advised to check their eligibility for the supplement and, if necessary, contact the Pension Fund authorities to arrange it.
