What Leaves Can Military Personnel Receive During Martial Law – Details
The right of military personnel to leave and the procedure for granting it are regulated by the Law of Ukraine "On Social and Legal Protection of Military Personnel and Their Family Members." This was explained by the Rivne Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support.
Annual Basic Leave
Military personnel are granted annual basic leave lasting up to 30 days, provided that no more than 30% of the personnel in the unit are absent at the same time. During this period, monetary and material support is maintained.
Separately, time may be granted for travel within Ukraine to the place of leave and back. Its duration cannot exceed two days one way.
The basic leave can be granted in parts, but its continuous part must be at least 15 calendar days.
If a serviceman falls ill during annual leave and requires inpatient treatment, the leave is extended after recovery by the number of unused days. For this, a medical institution certificate must be obtained and certified by the regional office of the Service of Law and Order or by the head of the city or district Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support.
Leave for Combatants
Military personnel with the status of combatants have the right to additional leave lasting 14 calendar days, as provided by the law on the status of war veterans and guarantees of their social protection. It is granted by the commander's decision.
Leave for Family Circumstances and Other Valid Reasons
Such leave is granted in specified cases and cannot exceed 10 calendar days excluding travel time within Ukraine. Monetary support is maintained during the leave period.
Leave for Destroyed Enemy Equipment
Military personnel may be granted additional leave for destroying enemy equipment. Its total duration does not exceed 15 calendar days per year and depends on the type of destroyed equipment.
Leave After Release from Captivity
Military personnel released from captivity who decide to continue service and need rest may be granted additional leave lasting up to 90 calendar days with preservation of monetary support without division into parts.
Leave for Treatment
Granted based on the conclusion of the military medical commission in case of illness or after injury. The duration is determined by medical specialists, with monetary support maintained.
Childcare Leave
Granted for childcare until the child reaches three years of age. During this period, monetary support is not maintained.
Additional Leave Related to Education
Granted to military personnel aged 18 to 25 who do not have higher education and study in higher or professional pre-higher education institutions, except military educational institutions.
Leave for Military Personnel Conditionally or Early Released from Serving Punishment
Such persons are not entitled to annual basic leave. However, they may be granted leave for family circumstances and other valid reasons lasting up to 10 calendar days.
