In Sumy region, a serviceman was detained who, while intoxicated, drove into the oncoming lane and fatally hit a motorcyclist
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained and notified a serviceman of suspicion who caused a fatal road traffic accident near the village of Terny in the Romny district of Sumy region.
According to the SBI, on the evening of June 1, 2026, the serviceman, driving a passenger car, drove into the oncoming traffic lane and collided with a motorcycle.
As a result of the accident, the 17-year-old motorcyclist sustained severe injuries. Despite medical assistance, he died in the hospital a few hours later.
The investigation established that the car driver was intoxicated.
The man was detained and notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, if it caused the death of the victim.
The article's sanction provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to 10 years.
Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided.
