In Ukraine, elderly persons are considered not only citizens who have reached retirement age, but also those who have no more than one and a half years left until its onset.

Since the general retirement age in Ukraine is 60 years, the category of elderly persons includes citizens aged 58 years and 6 months or older, reminds the State Labor Service.

At the same time, the right to a pension depends not only on age but also on the availability of the required insurance record. In 2026, it will be possible to retire at 60, 63, or 65 years depending on the number of years of insurance record.

Thus, to retire at 60 years, it is necessary to have at least 33 years of insurance record. If the record is less, the right to a pension arises at 63 years with 23 to 33 years of record.

Citizens who have from 15 to 23 years of insurance record will be able to apply for a pension after reaching the age of 65.

If a person does not have the minimum required 15 years of insurance record, in this case, state social assistance may be assigned in accordance with the legislation.
