Ukraine received an invitation to the NATO summit, and partners are preparing new contributions to strengthen air defense — Zelenskyy
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that a meeting of the Ukraine–NATO Council took place in Kyiv with the participation of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and ambassadors of all Alliance member states.
According to the head of state, holding the meeting in the Ukrainian capital was an important political signal of support for Ukraine following Russia's attempts to intimidate foreign diplomatic missions and force partners to reduce their presence in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy noted that one of the key issues in the negotiations was strengthening air and missile defense. He stated that partners have already decided on new contributions to the PURL program, which are expected to arrive in June.
The President also emphasized the need to accelerate work on creating Ukraine's own European missile defense system and producing corresponding missiles. According to him, Europe has both the technological and manufacturing capabilities to implement such a project but requires swift political decisions.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the countries supporting this direction, including France, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy.
Separately, during the meeting, preparations for the upcoming NATO summit were discussed. The President announced that Ukraine has received an invitation to participate in the event and will be represented there. According to him, one of the practical outcomes of the summit could be further strengthening Ukraine's missile defense.
