The appellate court confirmed the legality of the sentence for two residents of Melitopol district, who were sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping, torture, and murder of an 11-year-old boy and a 48-year-old woman. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The convicted appealed the decision of the court of first instance, but prosecutors proved there were no grounds for its cancellation or mitigation of the punishment. The public prosecution in the case was supported by the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional prosecutor's office, who led the group of prosecutors.

As established during the trial, in August 2021, the men suspected their acquaintance, an 11-year-old boy, of possibly possessing information about their illegal activities related to drug trafficking. Under the pretext of offering candies, they lured the child into a car and took him to a private house.

The boy was held in the basement for almost two weeks and brutally beaten in an attempt to obtain the necessary information from him. As a result of the inflicted injuries, the child died. To conceal the crime, his body was buried in the basement and covered with concrete.

A month later, a 48-year-old woman became a victim of the same men. According to the investigation, she was kidnapped to force her to disclose the location of a portion of cannabis that had previously been entrusted to her for safekeeping.

Not receiving the desired information, the perpetrators took the victim to a forest belt, tied her to a tree, and brutally beat her. The woman died from the injuries sustained. After that, her body was taken to a river and drowned, tied to two bricks.

After the sentence was passed by the court of first instance, both convicts filed appeals. During the case review, prosecutors insisted that the imposed punishment fully corresponded to the severity of the crimes committed.

On June 1, the appellate court agreed with the prosecution's arguments, rejected the appeals, and left the life imprisonment sentence unchanged.
