NATO countries are considering the idea of allocating a new military aid package to Ukraine worth 70 billion euros, which may be announced as early as next month at the alliance summit in Ankara. This was reported by Politico.

According to four NATO diplomats, the proposal, promoted by Germany, will include a new mechanism to increase transparency regarding funding for Ukraine.

As the publication notes, support for Ukraine is expected to be one of the key issues discussed at the NATO leaders' summit on July 7-8.

"The key point is to obtain a firm commitment from Ankara to continue providing Ukraine with such necessary support on a sustainable and fairer basis," added a fifth senior NATO diplomat.

The source adds that the 70 billion euros in funding will not consist solely of new money. About 30 billion euros will come from the already agreed EU two-year loan to Ukraine of 90 billion euros, and another 40 billion euros will be allocated through bilateral support programs.

However, some fear that countries may feel less compelled to make their own contributions if they can rely on EU funds.
