When planning a vacation, it is important to take care of the security of your home, the Kyiv Patrol Police reminded. During the summer period, many people leave their homes unattended, which can be exploited by criminals.

Law enforcement officers provided basic recommendations that will help reduce the risk of thefts and break-ins.

In particular, if possible, it is advised to install an alarm system. These can be inexpensive autonomous GSM systems or professional security complexes. It is also noted that even the imitation of an alarm system can scare off potential thieves.

Special attention should be paid to the reliability of entrance doors and locks, as this is the main passive protection of the home. Residents of the first and top floors are also recommended to install protective grilles on windows.

Among the advice is also to always close windows, vents, and balcony doors before leaving.

Additionally, the police recommend leaving lights on or using timers to turn them on automatically during short absences to create the effect of someone being at home.

It is also worth informing trusted neighbors so they can collect advertising mail and watch for suspicious activity near the home.

For storing documents and valuables, it is recommended to use a safe.
