The online taxi service Bolt announced the tightening of safety rules following a high-profile traffic accident in Kyiv that resulted in the deaths of four people.

The company stated that the driver's account was permanently blocked immediately after the first details of the tragedy became known. Bolt also reported cooperating with law enforcement agencies and maintaining contact with the injured passenger to provide necessary assistance.

After the incident, the service reviewed its internal response procedures and introduced new restrictions for drivers.

In particular, Bolt stated that from now on it will permanently restrict access to the platform for drivers who receive at least two complaints about speeding or dangerous driving behavior. According to the company, such complaints will be prioritized for review.

The company also noted that it is working on expanding the app's functionality to strengthen control over drivers' compliance with traffic rules.

"After this tragedy, we reviewed our internal response procedures. We also permanently restricted access to the platform for those drivers who received at least two complaints about speeding or dangerous driving behavior. Such complaints are reviewed by us as a priority. At the same time, our team is working on expanding the app's functionality to enhance control over compliance with traffic rules," the company said.

Recall that the accident occurred on June 5, 2026, around 5:00 PM on Chokolivskyi Boulevard in Kyiv. As a result of the accident, four pedestrians died – two district police officers, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy. Three other people were injured.

The driver was detained and charged under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On June 8, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv decided to detain the driver for 60 days without the right to bail.
