Kyiv has begun preparations for a large-scale expansion of the electric vehicle charging station network. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).

As Konstantin Usov, Deputy Head of the KCSA for the exercise of self-governing powers, said during the "Electrospective-2026" forum, the capital is currently processing information on approximately 6.5 thousand potential locations. In the future, charging infrastructure for about 13 thousand parking spaces for electric vehicles may be placed there.

According to the official, the city is creating a transparent mechanism for the development of this infrastructure. After completing the analysis, all locations are planned to be transferred for use for the installation of charging stations through open auctions in the "Prozorro.Sales" system.

"Kyiv will not follow the principle of 'first come, first served' for the best locations. All locations will be distributed through open auctions, which guarantees equal opportunities for all market participants and transparency of the process," Konstantin Usov noted.

The KCSA reported that to prepare the network, the municipal enterprise "Kyivtransparkservice," which operates the parking sector in the capital, sends requests to the electric grid holders, including DTEK (Donbas fuel and energy company), as well as to other enterprises and institutions.

Currently, data collection and analysis are underway regarding available capacities, connection possibilities, and other technical parameters necessary to determine suitable places for installing charging stations.

"We want the network development to occur not chaotically but based on technical calculations and real demand. That is why today we are gathering all the necessary information to make management decisions and further attract investors. We strive for harmonious development of this environment so that the charging infrastructure in Kyiv develops quickly, systematically, and meets the city's needs," Usov added.

After completing the preparatory stage, the city will form a list of locations to offer investors for installing charging stations.

The KCSA notes that the project is aimed at developing electromobility, attracting investments into urban infrastructure, and implementing modern European approaches to organizing the capital's transport space.
