Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko announced the preparation of changes aimed at improving road safety. She discussed the relevant proposals with the Minister of Internal Affairs and government representatives.

According to her, it is proposed to introduce tiered fines depending on the level of speeding, as well as to strengthen responsibility for drivers who systematically violate traffic rules.

Svyrydenko noted that for most drivers, the innovations will have no consequences, as the changes will primarily concern those who regularly create danger for other road users.

According to the automatic violation recording system, over the past 12 months, nearly 2,900 drivers exceeded the speed limit more than 50 times. More than 35,000 drivers were recorded by cameras more than ten times a year, and almost 12,500 drivers more than twenty times.

The Prime Minister said that soon the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to discuss the prepared proposals with members of parliament.

Separately, the government is working on developing the automatic violation recording system. Currently, about 377 speed control cameras operate on Ukrainian roads. Their number is planned to be increased to over 410 units.

In addition, legislative regulation of the use of electric scooters and other light personal transport is being prepared. According to Svyrydenko, during the first five months of 2026, the number of road accidents involving such transport increased by 66.8%.

The government emphasizes that the new rules must be clear and understandable for all road users, as such accidents result in deaths and injuries, including children.

As previously reported by the "Judicial and Legal Newspaper," after the tragedy in Kyiv on Chokolivskyi Boulevard, which resulted in 4 deaths, Bolt began blocking taxi drivers due to complaints about dangerous driving.
