In Kyiv, a BMW car hit a pedestrian after colliding with a VAZ – the culprit of the tragedy has been detained
Police have detained the driver who caused a fatal road traffic accident in the Pechersky district of the capital. This was reported by the Kyiv police.
Recall that the accident occurred the previous evening at the intersection of General Almazov and Staronavodnytska streets. As a result of the collision, a pedestrian died.
According to preliminary investigation data, a 35-year-old VAZ driver, while turning left, failed to yield to a BMW vehicle. After that, the BMW, out of control, struck a 49-year-old man who was crossing the road at a bicycle crossing.
The pedestrian died from his injuries in the ambulance.
Investigators of the city police detained the VAZ driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. It is reported that he was sober.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles, if it caused the death of the victim. The article's sanction provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
Currently, the issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion is being resolved.
