This Fall WhatsApp Will Stop Working on Some Smartphones – What It’s Related To
This fall, the WhatsApp messenger will stop working on some outdated versions of Android and iOS operating systems. This was reported by the service's help center.
According to the updated requirements, starting from September 8, WhatsApp will be supported only on devices with Android 6 and newer versions. From November 30, the app will work only on devices with iOS 15.5 and newer versions.
The service notes that on phones with the corresponding operating systems, users will still be able to install WhatsApp and register their number. At the same time, verification requires the ability to receive calls or SMS. Creating new accounts on devices that have internet access only via Wi-Fi is not supported.
The WhatsApp team explains that every year they analyze the oldest devices and software used by a small number of people. Such devices often lack current security updates or features necessary for the stable operation of the messenger.
Users of devices that no longer meet the minimum requirements will receive notifications and several reminders directly in the app about the need to update the system or replace the device.
