Five Ukrainian villages have been nominated for international recognition under the initiative of the World Tourism Organization, the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine reported.

Ukraine continues to demonstrate the potential of its communities to the world. This year, five villages were nominated by the country to participate in the UN Tourism program "Best Tourism Villages," combining unique cultural heritage, natural resources, and developing tourism as a tool for sustainable development.

The list includes:

  • Opishnia (Poltava region) — the center of Ukrainian pottery;
  • Vyhoda (Ivano-Frankivsk region) — a hub of ecotourism and the "Carpathian Tram";
  • Kryvorivnia (Ivano-Frankivsk region) — the spiritual center of Hutsulshchyna;
  • Medzhybizh (Khmelnytskyi region) — a settlement with a unique fortress and multicultural heritage;
  • Kytaihorod (Khmelnytskyi region) — a combination of picturesque natural landscapes and historical landmarks.

First Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine Olena Shkrum noted that tourism in Ukraine today primarily concerns the restoration of communities, creation of new jobs, support for small and medium-sized businesses, preservation of cultural heritage, and formation of strong local economies.

According to her, this also confirms that even during the war, Ukraine is able to attract the world's attention with its culture, history, and people.

"Best Tourism Villages" is a global UN Tourism initiative that recognizes rural communities where tourism contributes to economic development, preservation of cultural heritage, traditions, and the natural environment.
