Admission-2026: Which Applicants Can Study at the State's Expense and Live for Free in Dormitories
The admission campaign to higher education institutions in Ukraine will soon begin, and thousands of applicants will decide on their future place of study. For certain categories of applicants, the state has provided special educational guarantees and benefits. In particular, combatants, persons with disabilities due to the war, citizens released from captivity, as well as their children and children of fallen defenders, can count on state support during higher education.
Who can receive benefits for studying at universities
Combatants, persons with disabilities due to the war, citizens released from captivity and their children, as well as children of fallen defenders of Ukraine, have the right to state support during higher education. They are provided with a number of educational benefits, including state-funded education, social scholarships, and free accommodation in dormitories.
The right to benefits applies to:
- combatants;
- persons with disabilities due to the war;
- persons who were deprived of personal freedom due to armed aggression and were released from captivity;
- children of the above categories of citizens;
- children of fallen (deceased) defenders of Ukraine.
For children of these categories, the right to state support remains until the completion of studies, but no longer than until they reach 23 years of age.
What benefits are provided for children of military personnel and veterans
Support can be provided in various forms. In particular, the following are provided:
- full or partial payment of tuition fees at the expense of the state or local budgets;
- preferential long-term loans for education;
- social scholarships;
- free provision of textbooks;
- free access to the Internet and databases in educational institutions;
- free accommodation in dormitories.
Until what age do the benefits for studying apply to children of defenders
For children of combatants, persons with disabilities due to the war, citizens released from captivity, and children of fallen defenders, the right to state support remains until the completion of studies, but no longer than until they reach 23 years of age.
