Yuliia Svyrydenko: Mathematics will continue to be a mandatory subject in the NMT
Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko stated that currently there is "no possibility" for mathematics to become an elective subject in the National Multisubject Test (NMT). She said this at the "Education of the New Ukraine 2.0" conference.
Responding to a question about whether it would be possible next year to make mathematics an "elective" subject, Svyrydenko said: "There is no possibility to do that. I believe we need to speak frankly with each other... I do not think that next year, or in a year or another period, the structure will be changed."
The head of government emphasized that by deciding to make mathematics an optional subject, the state "can make things worse both for the applicant and for itself."
"Since it is you who will be developing it, you who will be making the best Ukraine to live in and to do business. For this, you need abilities, knowledge, skills, and mathematics lays all these foundations," Svyrydenko added.
Recall that the Ministry of Education and Science does not support the legislative initiative that provides for reducing the number of subjects in the National Multisubject Test and transferring mathematics to the list of elective disciplines.
