What deferments will military personnel receive under new contracts
Military personnel who have long been defending Ukraine will receive longer deferments. The longer they have fought, the longer their rest will be. This is part of a comprehensive transformation of military service. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense.
“Ukrainian defenders will be able to sign contracts with decent payments and clear terms of service, after the completion of which they are guaranteed the right to a deferment. Its duration will depend not only on the type of contract but also on the previous length of service and participation in combat operations. The minimum is six months,” the Ministry of Defense emphasized.
Automatic transfers will operate in test mode—in two corps designated by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What deferment applies to the infantry-assault contract
This type of contract provides a guaranteed basic deferment of 6 months after its completion. Then, participation in combat operations and total length of service are taken into account:
- +3 months for each month of combat missions;
- +6 months for each year of service from 2022 until signing the new contract;
- +1 month for each year of service before 2022.
This contract includes service in the following positions:
- infantrymen,
- assault troops,
- combat medics, gunners,
- mechanics-drivers, etc., according to the Lists of positions and military units approved by the Ministry of Defense.
Under the infantry-assault contract, the required service time is:
- 14 months for civilians;
- 10 months for active military personnel;
- 6+ months for military personnel discharged during the special period.
For example, a civilian signed an infantry-assault contract for 14 months. During service, they spent four months in combat, for which they received 12 months of deferment. Together with the guaranteed deferment, this totals one and a half years.
If an active serviceman (in this case for 10 months) who has been in the military since 2021 signs such a contract, an additional 6 months is added for each year of service from 2022 and one month for each year before 2022.
Thus, to 1.5 years are added two years and one month. As a result, after the contract ends, the serviceman will receive 3 years and 7 months of deferment.
What deferment applies to combat and basic contracts
For these types of contracts, 24 months of service is required. After their completion, a guaranteed basic deferment of 6 months is also provided.
Taking into account participation in combat operations and total length of service:
- +1 day for each day of combat missions;
- +1 month for each year of service before 2022.
The combat contract includes service in positions such as:
- UAV pilots;
- operators of ground robotic complexes (GRC);
- electronic warfare (EW) specialists;
- artillerymen, etc.
Meanwhile, under the basic contract, military personnel will serve in positions outside combat units.
Recall that the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov announced details of the new military service contract system, which will provide a guaranteed deferment after the contract ends. Its duration will depend on the type of contract, previous length of service, and the serviceman’s participation in combat operations.
The Ministry of Defense also revealed details of the new monetary provision system for servicemen and the introduction of three types of contracts.
Thus, the average level of monetary provision for infantrymen under the new model will be about 300,000 UAH per month, with maximum payments up to 460,000 UAH.
Additional payments for participation in combat missions are also provided: 10,000 UAH for each day on positions and 40,000 UAH for an "assault day." These payments will apply both to mobilized personnel and contract servicemen.
In addition, the Ministry of Defense responded on how servicemen who have served since 2014 and 2022 will be discharged.
