Ukrainians Massively Switch to Online Weddings: 4 out of 10 Couples Chose a Digital Service
In the first half of 2026, 79,516 marriages were registered in Ukraine. On average, about 13.3 thousand couples got married each month, which is 16% more than in the same period last year, according to Opendatabot.
The highest demand among newlyweds was for certain symbolic dates. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1,248 couples got married, and on the mirror date 26.06.2026 — 2,528 couples.
At the same time, statistics show that traditionally more marriages are concluded in the second half of the year. In particular, last year the difference between the first and second halves of the year was 41%.
The most marriages were registered in Kyiv — 19,928. Compared to last year, the number of marriages in the capital increased by 38%.
The second place was taken by the Dnipropetrovsk region, where 15,545 couples got married. In the region, the number of marriages increased 2.7 times.
The third place is Lviv region with 8,909 registered marriages. Compared to the same period last year, the figure increased 1.9 times.
This trend in the three regions of the country may be related to the spread of online marriages. After all, Digital Offices of the State Registration of Civil Status Acts operate precisely in Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro.
Online registration has become very popular. Since the beginning of the year, 4 out of 10 newlyweds got married this way. In total, 30,488 couples registered their relationships online.
Divorces were not avoided either. In the first half of 2026, 12,175 couples divorced through the state registration offices of civil status acts. This almost corresponds to last year’s figures — the number of divorces decreased by only 4%.
Divorce statistics through the civil registration offices are not exhaustive, as they do not include couples who dissolved their relationships through the court. Divorce at the civil registration office by mutual consent is possible only for families without children and without property disputes. In other cases, spouses must apply to the court.
Overall, currently, on average, every fourth divorce occurs through the civil registration offices.
