Finland will test the public warning system: when the sirens will sound
On Monday, June 1, at 12 PM, Finland will conduct a scheduled test of the public warning system. This is reported by Yle.
The siren tests are conducted monthly on the first Monday of the month, except on public holidays.
The Ministry of the Interior emphasized that citizens should be able to distinguish the test signal from a real danger signal. During the test, a continuous sound signal lasting seven seconds will be heard, which requires no action from the public.
In contrast, the public warning signal is a sound that alternately intensifies and weakens over the course of one minute. Upon hearing it, people must immediately go indoors and follow the instructions of the authorities. The all-clear signal also lasts one minute and sounds continuously.
The ministry explained that the public warning system is used to alert the population about smoke, gas leaks, or other dangerous situations. Additionally, sirens may be used to inform about threats from drones if such a decision is made by rescue services.
The sirens are part of the national multi-channel emergency warning system, which also includes spreading alerts through the mobile app 112 Suomi.
