In the Czech Republic, a system based on artificial intelligence is being developed that will fact-check online comments and detect misinformation. Researchers from the Faculty of Information Technology at Brno University of Technology are working on the project.

As Radio Prague International notes, the new tool is called FactDeMice. Its main task is to help journalists, media platforms, and companies analyze online discussions and find manipulative or misleading statements.

At the same time, the developers emphasize that the system does not determine what is true and what is false.

"The goal of the project is to counteract the decline of fact culture on the internet," explained researcher Martin Fajčík.

According to him, the software analyzes comments under news, identifies statements that are worth verifying, and then searches for information capable of confirming or refuting them.

For example, if a user claims in a comment that reports of three fires in the region are exaggerated and that in reality there was only one fire, the system checks this statement against available sources. If the data indicate three separate fires, the program provides appropriate confirmations and links to sources.

The system can also verify specific details of reports.

The developers note that the system can use verified sources, including media materials, as well as other open online resources.

"We are not trying to determine whether a comment is true or false. Our task is to provide people with evidence, and they should draw their own conclusions," emphasized Martin Fajčík.
