A powerful explosion occurred in the Romanian port of Constanta — a drone detonated, video
On June 5, a marine drone exploded in the Romanian port of Constanta; no one was injured as a result of the incident. This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
According to the ministry, the marine drone was discovered in the morning near the headquarters of the Romanian Maritime Rescue Agency. The drone self-detonated around 10:30 a.m.
The origin and type of the drone have not yet been disclosed.
"This marine drone belongs to those used in the war in Ukraine," the Ministry of Defense stated. The area where the incident occurred was isolated by the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Coast Guard, and the Ministry of Defense. At that time, the object was undergoing assessment and securing.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the drone does not belong to the Romanian army and did not participate in recent exercises organized by the Ministry of National Defense in the Black Sea.
Later, Romanian President Nicușor Dan commented on the incident. On his Facebook page, he noted that law enforcement and security services responded promptly and evacuated the area as a precautionary measure. He also added that there is currently no information about victims or injuries.
"Currently, the circumstances under which the drone entered the port and possible additional risks are being analyzed, and the directly responsible authorities will report on the progress of the investigation," he said.
The Romanian president added that the authorities "will maintain a high level of vigilance" given the security situation.
"Such particularly serious situations are direct consequences of the aggressive war started by Russia against Ukraine. As a NATO member state with access to the Black Sea, we will continue to closely cooperate with our allies and take all necessary measures to protect our citizens and national interests," Dan stated.
