Cuba has begun distributing weapons to the civilian population amid fears of possible military intervention by the United States. This was reported by Versión Final.

According to the publication, tension is rising in Havana due to the increased US military presence near the island. Against this backdrop, Cuban authorities are reportedly urging citizens to prepare for a possible foreign invasion and are distributing weapons among the population.

These statements appeared after a period of uncertainty in Washington. During a speech on Capitol Hill, the US Secretary of State did not provide clear details regarding further steps or possible military actions in the region, which further fueled speculation around the situation.

According to a CNN correspondent, signs of preparation for a potential military scenario are already noticeable in everyday life in Havana. In particular, administrations of government buildings are reportedly discussing with tenants the possible organization of work in case of military actions.

The journalist cited an example when the administrator of one government building asked office workers whether they would need premises in the event of a possible invasion.

According to him, recommendations for emergency preparedness are being implemented at the level of institutions and districts, causing concern among part of the population.
