Apple Introduces iOS 27: New Siri, Artificial Intelligence Features, and Updated Design
At the WWDC 2026 conference, Apple unveiled the new version of its mobile operating system, iOS 27. The update includes changes in artificial intelligence functionality, interface, system performance, and built-in applications.
Main Innovations in iOS 27
One of the key updates is the new version of the voice assistant Siri. According to Apple, the assistant has expanded contextual understanding of dialogues, can consider the content on the device screen, and perform actions within apps. Siri will be available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac as a standalone app.
The assistant operates on the updated second-generation Apple Intelligence platform. The company also confirmed the use of certain Google Gemini technologies. The system received improved search functions, query processing, and text dictation.
Some AI features work directly on the device without sending data to cloud services. At the same time, Apple Intelligence capabilities will only be available on iPhone 15 Pro and newer models. Owners of earlier smartphones will be able to install iOS 27 but without several AI features.
Changes in the Photos App
Generative image editing tools have been added to the Photos app. Users will be able to remove objects from photos, extend backgrounds beyond the original frame, and change the perspective of shots using artificial intelligence algorithms.
Performance and Stability
Apple focused on system optimization. According to the company, apps in iOS 27 launch faster, AirDrop performance has been improved, and device speed has increased due to changes in CPU resource management.
Spotlight and system search have also been updated, now using a new index for more accurate searching of files, messages, and emails.
Updated Interface
The Liquid Glass design now allows adjusting the transparency level of interface elements. Additionally, Apple changed the visual design of icons and system elements to enhance contrast and readability.
Other Innovations
Additional features include:
- Support for shared iCloud albums on Android and Windows;
- The ability to use two cameras simultaneously in FaceTime;
- A drawing app within Messages;
- Support for Live Activities in landscape mode;
- Larger widgets on the home screen;
- Separate alarm volume control;
- Customizable equalizer for AirPods;
- The ability to use one phone number on two iPhones.
According to Apple, the system also includes over 200 additional improvements and changes.
Which iPhones Will Receive iOS 27
The update will be available for the following devices:
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max;
- iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max;
- iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max;
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max;
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max;
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16e, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max;
- iPhone 17, 17e, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max;
- iPhone SE second and third generations.
iOS 27 will also come pre-installed on upcoming iPhone 18 lineup devices.
However, Apple Intelligence features will only be available on iPhone 15 Pro and newer models.
Release Timeline
The first developer beta version became available after the WWDC 2026 presentation.
Public beta testing is expected in July. The final release of iOS 27 for all users is scheduled for September 2026, coinciding with the launch of new iPhone models.
