The United Kingdom announced the introduction of 70 new sanctions aimed, in particular, at the Russian "shadow fleet," supply chains for military procurement, and networks of illegal financing used to circumvent sanctions. This was reported by the UK government.

More than 20 oil tankers of the Russian "shadow fleet" fell under the new sanctions in accordance with the new and expanded powers introduced last month.

The UK also increased pressure on those suspected of facilitating illegal oil trade benefiting Putin by additionally imposing sanctions on ship insurers and other companies related to maritime transportation.

"These sanctions target ships, money, and individuals supporting the Russian military economy, and therefore threaten European security. Working together with our G7 allies, we will continue to increase pressure on Putin and his circle of accomplices until the Russian war machine is stopped and peace returns to our continent," said UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The new measures also concern a network of Russian military intelligence operating around the cover company LLC Neptune Co Ltd (Neptune). Neptune is involved in the covert acquisition of Western technologies for the Russian military.

The new sanctions target three companies and 10 military intelligence officers suspected of procuring military technologies that Russia urgently needs to continue its military aggression against Ukraine.

Additionally, the sanctions affected suppliers of critically important military equipment for Russia in third countries – China, Thailand, and Turkey.

Several organizations helping Russia illegally move funds to circumvent Western sanctions were also restricted, including one entity in Nigeria.
