Polish President Karol Nawrocki considers the potential accession of Ukraine to the European Union a threat to Polish agriculture. According to him, Warsaw supports Kyiv's European aspirations but must primarily protect the interests of Polish farmers and the agricultural sector. This was reported by the office of the Polish president.

“We are struggling with the consequences of the EU-Mercosur agreement. I joined this process too late, although even under these losing conditions I did everything possible worldwide to stop decisions harmful to Polish farmers. I also believe that Ukraine's accession to the EU is a threat to Polish agriculture,” the Polish president said.

At the same time, he emphasized that despite understanding Ukraine's aspirations for EU membership, as head of state he will primarily defend the interests of Polish farmers.

“I am the president of Poland. Understanding Ukraine's aspirations, I will always stand guard over the proper treatment of the Polish farmer, Polish agricultural products, especially in the context of the Green Deal and EU decisions,” Nawrocki stressed.

The president also stated that Poland has enough resources and potential to develop its own agricultural sector without concessions that could harm national interests.

“We have too wonderful land, too great Poland, too hardworking and talented Polish farmers to give Polish agriculture either to ideology or to someone else,” he said.
