A petition has been registered in Ukraine, whose author calls for strengthening the protection of animals and beneficial insects from dangerous poisonous substances. According to the initiator, the use of certain types of rodenticides leads to the mass death not only of rodents but also of cats, birds, and bees that come into contact with poisoned animals or feed. In addition to restricting the sale of dangerous agents, the petition contains a number of proposals regarding the regulation of the number of stray animals, the development of state support for shelters, the promotion of humane treatment of animals, and conducting scientific research in this area.

Petition to ban dangerous poisons for animals

An initiative №41/010159-26ep "Ban the sale of poison deadly to cats, birds, and bees" was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers.

The author of the appeal notes that some poisonous agents used to combat rodents pose a deadly danger to other animals.

According to her, after poisoning mice, neighboring and stray cats may eat the poisoned rodents, which also causes their death. In addition, the petition claims that some farmers use poisonous substances that harm birds and bees.

At the same time, the author emphasizes that biological rodenticides, which she considers safe for cats and birds, are not available for free sale.

What changes are proposed in the petition

The appeal proposes:

  • to ban the sale of poison that is deadly to cats, birds, and bees;
  • to promote the free sale of biological rodenticides;
  • to create state animal shelters and provide free sterilization of stray cats and dogs;
  • to introduce mandatory sterilization of domestic cats and dogs if there is no demand for kittens or puppies;
  • to develop educational and upbringing programs on television aimed at animal protection;
  • to conduct scientific research on the harm or benefits of contraceptive pills for cats and dogs, animal feeds, the use of lard for feeding tits, as well as ants for gardens and orchards;
  • to send all hunters to the front.

The appeal was submitted on June 19, 2026, and registered under number 41/010159-26ep.

The start date for collecting signatures is June 19, 2026. There are 91 days left until the end of the signature collection.
