Kvass and Lemonade on Tap: How to Safely Buy Drinks in the Heat
With the arrival of heat, Ukrainians are increasingly buying cold drinks — water, kvass, lemonades, juices, or coffee on tap. However, along with the growing demand, the risk of purchasing substandard products also increases. The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection reminded what to pay attention to in order to avoid health risks.
When buying packaged non-alcoholic drinks, it is first necessary to carefully check the information on the label. The law requires manufacturers to indicate the product composition, production date, expiration date, storage conditions, and other important consumer information.
Buyers are also advised to check whether the product’s expiration date has passed and under what conditions it is stored. Non-alcoholic drinks should be kept at temperatures from 0 to +20 degrees Celsius and not be exposed to direct sunlight. Violating these requirements can affect product quality and cause the drink to spoil.
Rules for Drinks on Tap
Special attention should be paid to drinks on tap or those prepared directly in establishments. In such cases, the seller is obliged to provide product information upon the buyer’s request. Additionally, the cleanliness of the container into which drinks are poured is important.
Recently, more and more establishments allow customers to pour drinks into their own containers, refusing single-use plastic cups to reduce waste.
Can They Refuse to Pour a Drink into Your Own Container?
At the same time, the seller is responsible for complying with hygiene requirements. Therefore, if the buyer’s container looks dirty or its cleanliness is doubtful, the seller has the right to refuse to sell the drink in such a container.
Experts emphasize that following basic safety rules will help avoid food poisoning and other health problems during the hot season.
