Sometimes an ordinary-looking product from a store shelf can hide an unexpected danger. This is especially true for cheap electrical products of unknown origin, which do not always undergo proper inspection before reaching the consumer. This was the case with one of the popular household devices used as a night light in residential premises.

During state market surveillance activities, an electrical device was found that poses a serious threat to consumer health. It concerns the night light lamp TM IN-OUT (art. 900635, model GSB9128) with barcode 0250015318748, manufactured in China.

According to laboratory test results, the product does not meet the requirements of the Technical Regulations on the restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (CMU resolution dated 10.03.2017 No. 139). In addition, the product lacks the mandatory conformity marking to technical regulations, which is a violation of the requirements for the safe circulation of such products on the market.

Experts from the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection identified a critical risk level due to the excess content of toxic substances. Specifically, the following were recorded:

  • cadmium — exceeding the norm by 23 times;
  • lead — exceeding the norm by 907 times.

These indicators indicate a potential danger when using the product.

Experts warn: the use of such products can lead to acute and chronic poisoning, as well as pose environmental risks due to the accumulation of toxic metals.

The detected product is subject to increased attention within the framework of state market surveillance, and consumers are advised to consider the risks when choosing electrical products of unknown origin and without proper conformity marking.
