May 28 – What Holiday Is Today and Main Events
On May 28, Ukraine celebrates Community Police Officer Day and All-Ukrainian Local Lore Day. Worldwide, this day is also marked as World Hunger Day, International Amnesty Day, and International Day of Action for Women's Health. The Orthodox Church honors the memory of Saint Nikita, Bishop of Chalcedon.
Community Police Officer Day is a professional holiday for law enforcement officers who work directly within territorial communities and are responsible for the safety of local residents. The holiday aims to draw attention to the development of the police-community interaction model known as community policing. The "Community Police Officer" project has become one of the key directions in reforming Ukraine's law enforcement system. Its goal is to establish close cooperation between the police and community residents. Police officers often live and work within the community they serve, allowing them to better understand local issues and respond more promptly to challenges.
All-Ukrainian Local Lore Day was established according to the decision of the 6th Congress of the National Union of Local Lore Researchers of Ukraine, held on January 23, 2017. The purpose of this day is to popularize the history, culture, and customs of the Ukrainian people and to draw attention to local lore as an important discipline for preserving national memory.

The Orthodox Church on May 28 honors the memory of Saint Nikita the Confessor, Archbishop of Chalcedon.

Church traditions also mention Saint Nikita's brother, Ignatius. The settlement Ayos Nikitas on the island of Lefkada in Greece is named in honor of Nikita.
