Military families can apply for benefits without the servicemember: where to apply and what documents are needed
Thousands of Ukrainian families today live in anticipation of news from their loved ones at the front, and at the same time are forced to independently handle household and financial matters in the rear. One of the most common questions is how to apply for benefits if the serviceman cannot personally submit the documents.
The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy emphasized this.
It is noted that the law allows benefits to be processed without the personal presence of the serviceman. Instead, the spouse, parents, or other adult family members can apply if the defender is at the front, undergoing treatment, or unable to handle documents due to service.
The Committee stated that the right to benefits is confirmed not only by a veteran's ID but also by an electronic ID or an extract from the Unified State Register of War Veterans. This allows assistance to be arranged even in cases where the serviceman has not yet received a paper ID.
To apply for benefits, it is necessary to submit an application, an identity document of the applicant, proof of family ties, as well as a veteran's ID, electronic ID, or an extract from the veterans' register.
After that, the family can arrange benefits for payment of housing and communal services, purchase of solid fuel or liquefied gas.
Special attention was drawn to situations where the serviceman is in captivity or considered missing in action. In such cases, family members can also apply for benefits or transfer payments to their own bank account by contacting the Pension Fund with the appropriate documents.
The Tax Committee emphasized that many families postpone applying for assistance, waiting for the serviceman return, although the law already allows this to be done without their personal presence.
