In Ukraine, some pensioners aged 80 and over can receive additional monthly assistance from the state. This refers to a special allowance for elderly people who require constant external care and live independently.

The Pension Fund explains that simply being 80 years old does not automatically guarantee the appointment of such a payment. To receive the supplement, a number of conditions defined by law must be met.

The amount of assistance is 40% of the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost their ability to work. In 2026, this is 1038 hryvnias per month. The allowance can be granted to single pensioners who do not have able-bodied relatives legally obliged to support them. It does not matter whether such relatives live with the pensioner — the key factor is the legal obligation to provide care.

Another important requirement is an officially confirmed need for constant external care. Such a conclusion must be provided by a medical advisory commission.

The Pension Fund notes that the payment is intended to partially cover the additional expenses of elderly people for treatment, medication, and daily care. However, the money is assigned only after verifying all necessary documents.

How to apply for the supplement

First, the pensioner needs to undergo a medical examination. A family doctor or a specialized specialist issues a referral to the medical advisory commission, which determines the need for external care.

After receiving the conclusion, you need to contact the Pension Fund service center with an application and a package of documents. In particular, it is necessary to submit:

  • passport;
  • identification code;
  • medical advisory commission conclusion;
  • income declaration;
  • if necessary — documents confirming independent living.

What other payments are available to pensioners over 80

In addition, Ukrainians aged 80 and over can receive an additional age allowance of 570 hryvnias. It is assigned automatically if the person's pension does not exceed 10,340 hryvnias. There is no need to apply to the Pension Fund to receive this supplement.
