The statements of the Russian Foreign Minister Serhii Lavrov in a conversation with the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding possible strikes on Kyiv are a blatant provocation and demonstrate Moscow's interest in continuing the war. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha during a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the forum "Ukraine – Africa: Past, Present, and Future of Relations."

"I perceive this as a brazen provocation. This is a public confirmation, yet another indication of Russia's interest in continuing the war. Lavrov allows himself to publicly disclose the course of the conversation, where he confirms that he is threatening attacks on Kyiv. For me, it is very difficult to accept how this can be allowed," the minister said.

Sybiha emphasized that the very fact of publicly voicing such threats indicates contempt for international efforts to end the war.

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that Kyiv expects a tougher reaction from international partners.

Sybiha stated that clear signals are needed to Moscow demanding not to strike the Ukrainian capital and civilian infrastructure.

The minister specifically stressed that the international position should be aimed not at recording Russia's statements, but at applying pressure on it.

He criticized the very fact of transmitting such threats into the public space, especially to the United States, which participates in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

According to him, such actions demonstrate disregard for the peace process and international initiatives.
