Ukraine Ranks Among the Bottom in the European Transgender Rights Protection Index
Ukraine scored only 8 out of 32 points in the European Trans Rights Index and Map 2026, published by the organization Transgender Europe.
The index analyzes legislation and policies in the areas of legal gender recognition, anti-discrimination protection, access to healthcare, family rights, hate crime prevention, and asylum provision.
This year, Ukraine met 8 indicators. The best result was in the area of legal gender recognition — 7 out of 14 points. Ukraine received one more point for partial protection against discrimination in employment.
In the categories of "Asylum," "Hate Crimes and Hate Speech," "Healthcare," and "Family Rights," Ukraine scored zero points.
Iceland, Malta, and Spain topped the ranking. Russia took the last place. The worst scores were recorded by Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
