The EU will officially open negotiations on Ukraine's accession on June 15, — European Commissioner Marta Kos
The European Union on June 15 will officially begin negotiations on Ukraine's accession. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, writes Ukrinform.
She emphasized that on the specified date, an intergovernmental conference between Ukraine and the European Union will take place, which will be the formal start of the negotiation process within the first cluster of EU legislation "Fundamentals".
This cluster covers key areas, including justice, the functioning of state institutions, the public procurement system, financial control, and statistics.
"The rule of law is one of the most important steps. Everything starts and ends with it. By confirming it, a candidate country receives a certificate that the move towards the EU is serious," Kos noted.
She also explained that after opening the negotiation cluster and implementing the necessary reforms, the European Commission prepares an interim assessment report on the fulfillment of IBAR (Interim Benchmark Assessment Report) requirements.
After that, EU member states make a decision regarding the completion of the respective negotiation stage.
Recall that the Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council has officially started preparations for the opening of Cluster 1 "Fundamentals of the EU accession process" with Ukraine.
