From June 15, patients can independently check medicines at the best price — Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health announced that from June 15 it is launching the second stage of the initiative that allows patients to independently check medicines at the best price.

Since February this year, during the first stage of the initiative, doctors and patients have used the opportunity to view the minimum prices for medicines in the National Catalog over a million times. From now on, patients can view the most advantageous offers for all single-component prescription medicines (except narcotic drugs) in the National Price Catalog.

What has changed?

The paper memo for the e-Prescription contains a QR code. By scanning it, the patient is directed to the National Price Catalog website, where they immediately see all available medicines with the same active ingredient, form, and dosage, as well as up to three best options.

Previously, the price comparison feature worked only for tablets and capsules. Now it is available for all dosage forms of medicines that contain one active ingredient and whose prices are declared in the National Price Catalog.

This means that by scanning the QR code in the memo, you can find all medicine options that correspond to the prescription in your e-Prescription for:

  • syrups and suspensions;
  • drops (eye, ear, etc.);
  • ointments, gels, and creams;
  • injection solutions.

Important: this applies to medicines you buy at your own expense (those not included in the "Affordable Medicines" program and not reimbursed by local programs).

The Ministry of Health reminded how to use this opportunity:

When receiving an e-Prescription during the appointment, if possible, ask the doctor to print the paper memo for the e-Prescription.

Scan the QR code at the bottom of the sheet using your phone's camera.

Review the most advantageous options and choose the best one for yourself.

As before, at least one of the three medicines with the lowest price for the corresponding active ingredient must be available in the pharmacy.
