President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on June 15 that he proposed to the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to meet at the G7 summit in France this week for negotiations.

“We have sent a message that we are ready to meet with Putin during the G7 because Trump will be there and Macron will be there, that is Europe plus America. This is a good, I think, a very good opportunity to meet all together,” said Zelenskyy to journalists.

“Europe and the United States agreed, but Russia again demonstrated that... they are not ready to talk,” he added.

In an open letter to Putin this month, Zelensky proposed a personal meeting. In response, Putin publicly stated that he sees no reason for such a meeting.

According to Zelenskyy, his main priority at the G7 meeting will be to secure additional air defense systems for Ukraine to protect against Russian strikes.

“We will have meetings with Europeans, as well as with President Trump; we will talk with him about how to make Putin stop this war,” he said.
