The Khmelnytskyi Interregional Department of the Ministry of Justice has informed about the specifics of using Ukrainian notarial documents abroad.

For studying, employment, marriage registration, or inheritance processing in other countries, documents certified by a Ukrainian notary are often required. Their use is regulated by Ukrainian legislation and international agreements.

If there is a relevant agreement between Ukraine and another country, documents issued by authorized bodies and properly certified may be recognized without additional confirmation procedures.

At the same time, in some countries, it is necessary to undergo a procedure to confirm the validity of documents.

An apostille is applied for countries that are parties to the Hague Convention. This is a simplified procedure under which the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine affixes an apostille to notarial documents in Ukraine.

Consular legalization is used for countries that have not joined the Hague Convention. In this case, the document goes through several stages of certification, including at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and the consular office of the destination country.

It is important that in most cases a notarized translation into the language of the country where the document will be used must be attached to the apostilled or legalized document.

Before preparing documents, it is recommended to clarify the requirements of the specific country in advance to avoid additional time and financial costs.
