Some household consumers risk receiving gas bills with amounts that do not match the actual volumes of fuel used. The reason may be a common mistake — untimely submission of meter readings. This was reminded by the company "Naftogaz," urging customers to regularly submit current meter data.

The company notes that for the correct calculation of the cost of consumed gas, meter readings must be submitted monthly. If this is not done within the established deadlines, the supplier will not have data on actual consumption and will apply a different billing mechanism.

According to current rules, readings must be submitted no later than the 5th day of each month. This requirement applies to all household consumers, regardless of whether they live in the residence permanently or are temporarily absent.

What happens if readings are not submitted

Naftogaz explains that data provided at the end of the current month or by the 5th of the next month are used to determine the actual volume of gas consumed.

If by the 6th day the gas distribution network operator does not receive readings and cannot remotely read the meter information, consumption volume will be determined by calculation.

In this case, the basis is the average monthly gas usage indicator formed based on data from the previous 12 months. Because of this, the amounts in the bills may be higher or lower than the actual consumption.

What gas tariff is currently in effect

Currently, natural gas supply to the population is carried out by eight companies. At the same time, the vast majority of Ukrainians — about 98% of consumers, or more than 12.5 million households — use the services of "Naftogaz."

For the company's clients, the natural gas tariff remains unchanged at 7.96 UAH per cubic meter. This price will remain in effect at least until the end of martial law in Ukraine.
