The SBI uncovered abuse at the Territorial Recruitment Center in Odesa region: men were beaten, illegally detained, and subjected to sexual violence
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation uncovered a large-scale scheme of illegal coercion of citizens to mobilization at one of the district Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers in Odesa region. This was reported by the SBI.
According to the investigation, six officials of the district TRC together with three representatives of a local public organization organized an unlawful mechanism for delivering and detaining men. Representatives of the public organization helped to search for citizens and collect information about them.
Investigators documented numerous cases of cruel treatment of the victims. According to the investigation, men were illegally detained in the premises of the recruitment center, beaten, intimidated, and subjected to psychological pressure.
In addition, law enforcement officers established individual cases of sexual violence against the victims.
During searches, SBI employees seized rubber batons, hammers, and other items that, according to the investigation, were used to physically influence citizens.
Nine members of the group have been detained. They have been notified of suspicion of torture, illegal deprivation of liberty, and robbery committed by an organized group (Part 3 of Article 127, Part 2 of Article 146, Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court has imposed a preventive measure on all suspects in the form of detention without the right to bail.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. SBI employees are identifying all persons involved in the crimes, as well as other possible victims.
